Security Questionnaires

Answer vendor security questionnaires accurately and on time

CyberAccord helps you complete SIG, CAIQ, HECVAT, VSA, and custom security questionnaires with answers that are accurate, consistent, and written for the reviewer reading them.

At a glance

CyberAccord's security questionnaire service helps vendors complete the security reviews their customers send, including SIG, CAIQ, HECVAT, VSA, and custom questionnaires. We answer accurately, close or explain gaps, and build a reusable answer library. It suits SaaS and service companies whose sales slow down while security questionnaires sit unanswered.

Which questionnaires do we handle?

Every major standardized questionnaire has its own structure, terminology, and audience. We know what each one is trying to find out.

  • SIG (Standardized Information Gathering): published by Shared Assessments to assess third-party risk across security, privacy, and business resilience. Requesters usually send SIG Lite, SIG Core, or a version built from the full question library.
  • CAIQ and CCM: the Cloud Security Alliance's Consensus Assessments Initiative Questionnaire asks cloud providers how they meet the Cloud Controls Matrix. A completed CAIQ can also be published to the CSA STAR Registry as a self-assessment.
  • HECVAT: the Higher Education Community Vendor Assessment Toolkit from EDUCAUSE, used by colleges and universities to assess vendors that handle institutional data. We work with whichever version the institution sends.
  • VSA questionnaires: the Vendor Security Alliance's VSA Full covers security practices in depth, and VSA Core focuses on the most critical security and privacy questions.
  • Custom questionnaires: spreadsheets and portals created by individual customers, often with their own terminology.

How we answer custom vendor questionnaires

Custom questionnaires are the hardest because they do not follow a standard. Customers use them for risk assessment, contract oversight, and due diligence, and each one emphasizes different things.

We read each question for what the reviewer is really trying to learn, prioritize the complex ones, and answer clearly and consistently with your other responses. Where a control is missing, we do not paper over it: we recommend a fix or a compensating control and describe your actual position honestly.

What happened to Privacy Shield?

The EU-U.S. Privacy Shield was invalidated by the Court of Justice of the European Union in July 2020 in the Schrems II decision, so questionnaires should no longer ask you to rely on it. Its replacement is the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (DPF), which the European Commission recognized as adequate in July 2023, with a UK Extension and a Swiss-U.S. framework alongside it.

We help you answer DPF-related questions accurately, prepare for self-certification with the U.S. Department of Commerce if it suits your business, and explain the transfer mechanisms you use instead, such as Standard Contractual Clauses. We can also review how you protect both employee and customer data.

Answer once, reuse often

Most questionnaires ask similar questions in different words. We build a reviewed library of approved answers and supporting evidence, so your next questionnaire takes far less effort and your answers stay consistent across customers.

How it works

  1. 1

    Review the request

We read the questionnaire, identify what the customer cares about most, and gather your existing policies and evidence.

  2. 2

    Interview and draft

We interview the right people on your team, then draft clear, accurate answers for every question.

  3. 3

    Close gaps

Where a control is missing, we recommend a fix or compensating control so you can answer confidently.

  4. 4

    Finalize and reuse

You approve the final answers, and we add them to your answer library for the next request.

Questions, answered

How long does it take to complete a security questionnaire?

Typically one to two weeks for a first questionnaire, depending on its length and how much documentation you already have. Later questionnaires go faster because most answers come from your approved library.

What if we cannot answer yes to a question?

We never recommend answering inaccurately; misstatements can create contractual and legal risk. Instead, we explain your current position, describe any compensating controls, and give a remediation plan where one exists. Reviewers generally respond better to an honest, specific answer than a vague yes.

Should we publish our CAIQ to the CSA STAR Registry?

If you are a cloud provider that receives many CAIQ requests, publishing a self-assessment to the STAR Registry lets customers find your answers without asking each time. We can help you decide and prepare it.

A customer asked about Privacy Shield. What should we say?

Privacy Shield was invalidated in July 2020 and is no longer a valid transfer mechanism. Explain that you rely on the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework if you are certified, or on another mechanism such as Standard Contractual Clauses. We can help you word the answer.

Do we need SOC 2 or ISO 27001 to pass these questionnaires?

Not always, but a current SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certificate often lets reviewers skip much of a questionnaire. If questionnaires keep slowing your sales, we can help you decide whether a formal attestation is worth pursuing.

Can you handle questionnaires submitted through customer portals?

Yes. We work with spreadsheets, documents, and online vendor risk portals. Your team keeps final approval of every answer before it is submitted.
